Hello fellow Wing Riders.

I am getting a little cabin fever from the Illinois winter. Going to go get a little sun next week and then in mid February head toward the Texas Hill Country for month of riding. If any of you have some suggest routes in the Hill Country please share.

What area of Texas are you referring to as Hill Country. I know of some good routes down around San Antonio.

Steve, if you get a chance take FM473 that begins 9 miles south of Blanco, right off US 281, that goes west to Comfort. It is one of the best roads in the area, with plenty of curves and ups/downs!!

Thanks Leroy. I have been on this road many times. It a great jumping off point for other good roads or follow it all the way past Hillbillyz to Sisterdale and then on to the Old 9 road. I like to turn north and eat at the Alamo Springs Cafe, or on Saturday/Sunday run on up the road to Bankersmith. We always end up on side roads for adventures. Many just wander around across ranches, we call these goat trails. Its always fun exploring around the Hill Country.

Any other suggestions?

Leroy, If you haven't had a chance stop on the North end of Blanco at the Milam Green distillery. Some of the best Bourbon in Texas. I always bring a few bottles home with me.

Steve, nope haven't stopped at the distillery. I lived in Texas (Killeen) for 12 years and have driven a lot of the roads in the area. But we moved from there to Arkansas in 2019. Only been back in the area twice and will not be able to go back for at least another year. I am currently working in Saudi Arabia and will not be home until at least 2024.

A couple of other rides I enjoyed was Nameless Road west of Leander and Lime Creek Road, west of Cedar Park. I tried to stay away from Austin, but these were great roads I couldn't avoid!!

Another favorite was FM 580 that started out In Lampasas and went west to Bend and then either follow 580 to San Saba or take FM 501 to Cherokee. These roads fit my riding style!!

Now, if you want to visit Arkansas, hit me up in 2024!!

Have fun and be safe riding!!

LeRoy

Thanks. Will check these out. Were you able to take your bike with you? Or pick up another ride while you are there?

I have not been able to get to NW Arkansas yet. Its on my list for 23. Maybe I'll push it to 24:)

No, I am not able to have my Goldwing over here. And with the way traffic and the roads are over here, it is best my bike is setting in my garage!!!
I would not ride a bike over here for those reasons and more.

If you push going to NW Arkansas till 24, hit me up. I live in West Arkansas (South of Ft Smith) and will have a lot of time on my hand then!! I have mapped out rides for friends in the past and can pass them on or ride with you!!

Be safe riding!!

Hey Don, We are staying in Canyon Lake. Our riding normally takes us anywhere from Boerne to Kerrville to Fredricksburg and everywhere in between.
In 2018 I attended a Can Am Spyder rally called Spyders In The Hills that took place in Boerne, TX. They had about 20 different rides setup. They had a QR code you could scan for each ride and then follow it on your phone on Google Maps. Let me know if you can scan this and see if the route comes up for you. If it does, I can scan all 20 rides out of Boerne for you so you can choose what you want. This ride is 245 miles long. It's about 5 hours with no stops. I have shorter rides that are in the 70 mile range.
