The 2018+ CB System is a bit more complex than the old ones
Attached is a diagram with the layout.
Most of it is digital inside the bike's audio navigation unit - already there from the factory. Three other computers involved too. Have to install the antenna, transceiver, switches, and harnesses (all the green stuff) as an accessory.
The CB "system" is an accessory. It does not come installed from the factory.
A full CB install includes the following:
CB Antenna/Mount/Cable: PART#: 08E85-MKC-A00 or 39102-MKC-A01
CB Radio Transceiver: PART#: 08E83-MKC-A00
CB Switch: PART#: 08E84-MKC-A00
Also there is an optional Passenger Push To Talk Switch
PPTT Switch PART#: 08E82-MKC-A00
The CB transceiver plugs into the Audio Nav module under the trunk and separately to a 3 Pin plug under the seat for power (two sources) and a single ground
The harness comes with the transceiver.
See attached technical diagram above
US based company, Radio Sound Inc, that actually builds the CB transceiver, can repair/refurbish it too.
Rebuild cost is about $275 and takes about a week. They need your bad transceiver.
What caused me to do all this research and build this diagram?
My ability to communicate via CB failed during my recent four day ride to Sequoia and Kings Canyon Nat. Parks---and, critically, I was the primary comms hub between 7 bikes on Sena Open Mesh and 7 bikes on CBs.
Symptoms:
When transmitting -
Pull the Push To Talk Switch on the left handle bar.
TX shows up on bike's dash as expected.
An electrical buzz is received by other CB users but no voice comms reach them
Buzz is not present when not transmitting.
Faint rice crispies type of electrical snap can be heard at start and end of transmission.
When receiving
RX shows up on bike's dash as expected.
An electrical buzz is received by by the rider - comms from the other bike does get through
Buzz is not present when not receiving
Faint rice crispies type of electrical snap can be heard at end of the received transmission.
Troubleshooting steps:
Tried two different headsets: same result - no change in symptoms
Tried a 2nd antenna, antenna mount and cable: same result - no change in symptoms
Tried passenger PPT: Same result - no change in symptoms
Based on the symptoms, results of the troubleshooting steps, and connections between the CB transceiver and the Audio Nav unit are all assumed to be digital (the CB audio line might be analog) indicates that the failure is extremely likely to be the CB transceiver.
The audio nav unit could have a failure if the CB audio line is analog...but that is still highly unlikely.
