I just read the new announcement on FB and I am glad to see the revision of the organization. Congratulations!
Hello Jere Goodman and John Lazzeroni,
I would like to know more about how the development of the organization is going to progress in going forward and expanding in the future. Some questions that I have are (1) a full explanation of the Liability insurance, (2) the core foundation of basic chapters, (3) the qualifications for volunteers of the chapters, districts, and other expansion that volunteers will be decided on, and (4) the recruiting of motorcyclist to be aware of the organization.
Liability Insurance: There were so many opinions about the Liability insurance that GWRRA provided among chapter, district directors, and just GWRRA members. I heard comments that any chapter function was covered and all the volunteers who participated in the presentation(s) were covered. This was opinioned as to why only those who had taken and received a certificate as Road Captains could lead rides to protect the chapter(s) and the Road Captains on rides. My own understanding from the documentation I had access to was ONLY the directors, GWRRA officers, and third parties were covered with the insurance. The third parties were identified as any facility or location that was rented or monetary consideration had to be provided could request for the umbrella liability coverage and the Liability insurance would be applicable. Since the November Announcement on FaceBook references such insurance, I think a clarification of the coverage limits and levels might be assisting in everyone knowing the exact purpose of having the Liability insurance.
Core Foundation: I know the plan is to have chapter elections for the officers. I can only relate to my "district" and most of the chapters that closed were not from lack of participation but from the decline in volunteers to step up to be a chapter director and a treasurer. My current "chapter" has participants that actually combine 4 previous chapters. Those chapters didn't cease to exist because of lack of participants, but from no member wanting to volunteer to lead the chapters. How is an elective option going to remedy the decline in chapters? How putting together a set of by-laws is going to enhance volunteers to step up initially to formulate something that was never addressed in their past experience of GWRRA?
Qualifications: This is more a proceeding forward consideration. I have seen other organizations requiring a one year membership as a basic qualification to apply or seek a position in their organization. I know the one year qualification with Wingd Rider is not a reality currently, but will there be some time of attendance in the future? The time qualification is usually a period where the person ( like me ) can learn about the organization, understand the direction of the organization, and develop an understanding of how being associated with the organization is beneficial to my personal growth or contribution to my community.
Recruiting of the public: This is probably the most challenging. The membership of GWRRA is aware or has heard of both organizations rising from the ashes of GWRRA and are debating which is meeting their core approach of the future of their riding and gathering together. In 2004, I had never heard of GWRRA (or the other 3 Gold Wing organizations) when I purchased my Gold Wing. There were no community notifications at my neighborhood grocery stores advertising their gatherings or rides. When I went to restaurants and saw motorcycles, I didn't see any acknowledgement that the riders were a group associated with the Gold Wing brand. Over the years our chapter participants have not increased in the way it did when the dealer was actively referencing our chapter. Is it from the chapter team not pursuing more involvement with the dealership? Is the dealer not considered a part of the recruiting of new participants? Is there a vehicle that will expose the local community to our chapter and increase our participation as well as increase the membership of Wingd Rider?
It is an interesting time for the motorcyclist community.
Thanks, Dan
