A six day road trip had me wanting saddlebag lights. My recent experiences helping replace two Smart Control Units with the supporting research on Fuses 24 and 15 and how the trunk light circuit works had me wary of using the trunk light circuit.
So after a chat with Honda Techline, I decided to take a risk (emphasis on risk) and install saddle bag lights that integrated with the trunk light circuit
Used two OEM trunk lights PART#: 08U74-MKC-A00, one for each saddlebag (note - not the puddle/entry lights) . The saddlebags are already set up for these lights to be physically mounted. However, there are no grommets specified for the wires.
You will have to make some choices on which grommet to route the wires through.
Left side - if you don't have the amp, use that grommet.
Right side - if you don't have homelink or CB use one of those grommets.
I used the amp grommet on the left (I don't have the amp) and the radio antenna grommet on the right (my antenna is removed). Would have used the homelink grommet otherwise (I have both homelink and the CB)
The Smart Control Unit (SCU) appears to be handling the added load.
WARNING: There is always risk when dealing with the SCU.
